Electronic Filing Mandate and New Sales Tax Form ELECTRONIC FILING MANDATE: In accordance with changes signed into law in June of 2022, a larger business registrant will be required to use electronic means to file returns and remit taxes to the State of Rhode Island for tax periods beginning on or after January 1, 2023. NEW SALES TAX FORM: Starting with the return for the period ending January 2023 [filed in February 2023], monthly and quarterly Sales and Use Tax filers will begin using the RI Division of Taxation's new sales form - Form RI-STR. Make a Payment Online Making tax payments simple. We realize that tax administration can be difficult, so we strive to make paying your taxes as simple as possible. We have created a Tax Portal that allows for same-day and future payments for all taxes administered by the Division of Taxation. We allow for estimated payments, extension payments, payments with a tax filing, license renewal payments, bill payments and payments for various fees. Payment Options Tax Portal The Tax Portal can be used to quickly and easily pay your taxes using a checking or savings account. Go to the Tax Portal MeF for Personal Income You may elect to have your payment made based on your MeF 1040 or 1040NR filing via ACH Debit. ACH Credit We allow for ACH Credit (EFT) payment for Sales, Withholding, and a variety of other taxes electronically via the ACH network. For more information, please see the EFT webpage. Paper Even with the advancement of electronic filing and portal services, there are still many people that pay taxes using a personal or certified check.
