ALERT: Scam Calls Rhode Island taxpayers are being targeting by spam/scam phone calls claiming to be from the RI Division of Taxation. Due Date Extensions The Division of Taxation extends certain due dates to July 15, 2024 in response to the April 4, 2024 announcement from the IRS regarding federal due date extensions due to severe storms and flooding. Refer to Advisory 2024-16 and Advisory 2024-17 for further guidance regarding Rhode Island due dates.
File a Tax Return The RI Division of Taxation has multiple ways in which you can file a tax return. Tax Portal With the exception of taxes supported by Modernized E-file, you may file your tax documents electronically using our Tax Portal. On the Tax Portal, you can file tax returns, extension requests, and license renewals in addition to making estimated payments, extension payments, payments with a tax filing, license renewal payments, bill payments and payments for various fees. If you need help getting started, feel free to call us at 401.574.8484 or email at taxportal@tax.ri.gov Go to the Tax Portal Modernized e-file (MeF) You may elect to use software preparation programs to easily file your personal income tax, corporate tax and fiduciary tax forms, along with your Federal return at the same time as your Rhode Island tax return. For more information, please refer to the instructions provided by your Software Vendor used to file the IRS and RI-1040, RI-1040NR, or RI-1041 returns. Some taxpayers may be able to take advantage of the electronic Free File program. For more information, please see our Free File webpage. RI.GOV Payments can no longer be made through the RI.GOV site. However, you can still access the site in order to view previous payments made using that site. Sign up now to use the RI Division of Taxation's Tax Portal. Paper Even with the advancement of electronic filing and portal services, there are still some taxpayers that file using paper. Paper forms make use of 2D barcodes, 1D barcodes and OCR scanlines to aid in processing. For more information, please refer to your tax form instructions.
